Pre Sales FAQ

We want you to have all the details when considering AKCP products from Enviromon.net. Below is a curated selection of the questions our sales and technical support teams hear most from people researching environmental monitoring systems.

Are the sensors limited to the cable lengths you sell with them?
Most AKCP Smart Sensors (with the exception of fixed-length sensors such as the Water Detection Sensor or fixed-length temperature sensors) can be extended using standard CAT6 Ethernet cable. Some sensors have specific distance limits— for example, the Siren/Strobe sensor should not be extended beyond 60′ to ensure full functionality.
What is the difference between Smart Sensors and dry contact sensors?
Smart Sensors plug into the Base Units via Ethernet cable and support ranges and thresholds (e.g., set a temperature range for alerts). Dry contact sensors are simple on/off (positive/negative) inputs. An example of a dry contact sensor is a Door Contact Sensor.
Are your products upgradeable / expandable?
Yes. All Smart Sensors, attachments, and peripherals work across the product line, so you can keep existing sensors when upgrading to a larger Base Unit. Firmware on sensorProbe+ and securityProbe units is updated via a simple graphical tool. Packages are available on AKCP’s support site (https://www.akcp.com).
Can your products operate in a standalone fashion?
Yes. sensorProbe+ and securityProbe Base Units provide alerting and network functionality as standalone network devices. They do require a network connection and an available IP address.
What are the limits to the number of sensors I can have?
This depends on the Base Unit. For example, the SensorProbe+ 2+ supports up to 4 Smart Sensors, while other sensorProbe+ and securityProbe units support 8 or more (configuration dependent). An SPX+ 8-Port Base Unit can host eight temperature sensors, or four temperature plus four liquid detection sensors, or eight different sensors.
How are the sensorProbe+ and securityProbe products accessed and controlled?
Through a web application—enter the Base Unit’s IP address in your browser to configure sensors, notifications, and settings. SNMP is also supported for integration with systems such as Netmon.
How are sensorProbe+ and securityProbe configured for my network?
AKCP provides a downloadable utility that includes a Windows tool called IPSet. Run it from a Windows workstation to discover the device and configure IP address, netmask, gateway, and DNS servers.
How is the firmware updated?
Download the firmware package from the “Firmware & Downloads” section on AKCP’s support website. An instruction guide is also provided for applying updates.
Do the sensorProbe products support sending SMS messages for alerts and can they dial a phone number?
The original sensorProbe models do not support SMS or phone dialing. sensorProbe+ and securityProbe devices do support SMS notification and phone dialing for alerts.
Can I use the Smart Sensors by themselves and plug them directly into my network switch?
No. All Smart Sensors must be connected directly to a sensorProbe+ or securityProbe Base Unit to function.
Do Enviromon products have a warranty?
Yes. A one-year global limited warranty is provided on all AKCP products. An additional one-year warranty is available for an extra 20% of the list price.
